history

On December 1, 1897, the Westphalian sand and clay works was founded as a limited liability company in Dorsten by the Dorsten banker Franz Josef de Weldige-Cremer, the Gahlen factory owner Gustav Adolf Müller and his son Hermann Müller. The managing director was Bernhard Holtfort, who built the Gahlen-Hardt plant, now Dorsten-Hardt . In 1907 August Hompel from Recklinghausen joined the company with his son Rudolf and later Consul Bernhard Drerup from Münster. On June 22, 1939 the GmbH was transformed into a KG with the company Westfälische Sand- und Tonwerke Dr. Müller & Co. converted.

On May 16, 1956, Westdeutsche Quarzwerke Dr. Müller GmbH founded with funds from the Westphalian sand and clay works . The name Westdeutsche Quarzwerke was chosen because the company had also built several sand and gravel works outside of Westphalia: Neuenkirchen near Rheine (1935), Haddorf (1937), Holdorf (1949), Haltern (1950), Kerpen-Horrem (1960) . The West German Quarzwerke Dr. Müller GmbH continued the business of the Westfälische Sand- und Thonwerke founded in 1897 .

On February 27, 1970, Westdeutsche Quarzwerke founded Sigrano Nederland NV , based in Heerlen in the Netherlands , and built a quartz factory with a grinding system there. In 1996, Sigrano acquired Quarzwerke Lieben Minerals BV , based in Maastricht, the Netherlands, and took over sales of the quartz sands and quartz flour processed in the Maastricht plant in Germany. In the years that followed, today's Euroquarz (then Westdeutsche Quarzwerke Dr. Müller GmbH) sold its shares in Sigrano to Sibelco and in return took over the distribution of Sibelco's quartz products in Germany.

On July 8, 1991, Quarzwerke Ottendorf-Okrilla GmbH was founded in Ottendorf-Okrilla north of Dresden by Westdeutsche Quarzwerke. Since 1993, dried quartz grains in the range 0–16 mm have been processed and dry mortar has been produced there. Since 1996 the Westdeutsche Quarzwerke in Hünxe near Wesel has been operating a plant for the production of colored quartz under the company WST Quarz GmbH .

On October 10, 2000, the West German Quarzwerke and at the same time the East German Quarzwerke Ottendorf-Okrilla uniformly renamed Euroquarz GmbH .

On January 1, 2010, the Lübeck-based Possehl Group took over all company shares in Euroquarz GmbH , including its subsidiaries, through its building services division ( Possehl Spezialbau Group) . The EUROQUARZ Group operates at the main locations in Dorsten (North Rhine-Westphalia), Ottendorf-Okrilla (Saxony), Essen and Hünxe (North Rhine-Westphalia). Euroquarz is managed as an independent division within the construction services division. Since January 1, 2015, the Euroquarz subsidiary WST Quarz GmbH has been integrated into another holding company within the Possehl Spezialbau Group for organizational reasons.
