Eusebio Sánchez Pareja

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eusebio Sánchez Pareja (* 1716 in Córdoba (Spain) ; † after October 24, 1787 probably in Guadalajara (Mexico) ) was a Spanish colonial administrator who temporarily served as viceroy of New Spain.

Sánchez officiated from 1771 to 1776 and from April 22, 1777 to October 24, 1787 as governor of the province of Nueva Galicia (German: New Galicia). After his successor took office on an interim basis, it seems plausible that he died in office and thus with a high degree of probability in Guadalajara.

From Sánchez's time in Guadalajara, instructions for improving hygiene in slaughterhouses and a bathing ban in the river have been handed down. He also reported to the viceroy about the state of the militias in his province.

After the death of the viceroy Bernardo de Gálvez y Madrid in October 1786 he also took over the official duties of the viceroy of New Spain. For this term, Sánchez will continue to serve as governor of New Galicia. It can therefore be assumed that the Real Audiencia of Mexico , which was primarily responsible for the continuation of government affairs in the event of the death of a viceroy, entrusted Sánchez with this task. In May 1787 he handed over the office of viceroy to Archbishop Alonso Núñez de Haro y Peralta .
