Eustadius of Mesmont
Eustadius von Mesmont , also Eustadius von Saint-Bénigne , (* late 5th century in Mesmont (Côte-d'Or) , † around 6th century in Dijon ) was a Benedictine and first abbot of the Abbey of Saint-Bénigne in Dijon.
Life
Eustadius von Mesmont came from one of the first and most influential families of the Gallo-Roman nobility in the region around Autun , whose origins lay in the Arverni tribal area. Members of the family were mentioned several times as senators and governors of Autun.
As the great-grandson of the famous bishop Gregor von Langres , Eustadius grew up in a Christian environment and received a classical education based on the Roman model. After putting in the convent establishing his great grandfather Gregor, Saint-benign according to the construction of a basilica and pilgrimages to the local grave of St. Benignus of Dijon a convent Convention had formed Eustadius was determined for the first Abt Abbey Saint-Bénigne whose line it up to held his death.
Eustadius von Mesmont died in the monastery of Saint-Bénigne and was buried there; his grave was in the immediate vicinity of the crypt with the sarcophagus of St. Benignus.
