Eva Asderaki ( Greek Εύα Ασδεράκη ; born January 27, 1982 ) is a Greek tennis referee .

Career

Asderaki has led tennis games on the WTA Tour , the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and other tennis tournaments. She was awarded the Gold Certificate by the International Tennis Federation .

On September 11, 2011, she led the women's singles final of the US Open between the eventual winner Samantha Stosur and Serena Williams , in which there was a verbal argument between her and Williams after an unsportsmanlike conduct by Williams. Williams had loudly applauded the point win after a stroke and before the ball hit the opposing side, although it was not yet clear whether her opponent could still reach the ball, which is not allowed. This point win was stripped of Williams and counted for Stosur, which also meant that Stosur won the first game of the second set. This made Williams so angry that she insulted Asderaki very badly. The tournament referee later defended Asderaki; she didn't do anything wrong.
