Eva Lachkovics (born October 1, 1955 in Vienna ) is an Austrian biochemist and politician ( Greens ). From 2008 to 2010 she was a member of the State Parliament and a member of the Vienna City Council .

education and profession

Eva Lachkovics attended from 1962 to 1966 the elementary school Schrankenberggasse in Vienna- Favoriten and between 1966 and 1974 the modern language grammar school of the girls' secondary school in Vienna 10 in Laaer-Berg-Straße . After graduating from high school, she first studied technical chemistry at the Vienna University of Technology from 1974 to 1977 and biochemistry at the University of Vienna from 1977 to 1981 . She wrote her diploma thesis on "Mitochondrial protein synthesis during the cell differentiation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae" at the Institute for General Biochemistry and in December 1981 acquired the academic degree Magistra rer.nat.

From January 1982 to August 1986 Lachkovics was the head of the information center of Health Action International (HAI) in the regional office for Asia and the Pacific of the International Organization of Consumers Unions (IOCU) (today: Consumers International ) in Penang , where she worked as an employee of the Vienna Institute for International Cooperation (IIZ) worked. Her tasks included providing consumer information on pharmaceuticals and drug policy in third world countries. After briefly working as an informal employee at the Rural Advancement Fund International (RAFI) in March 1986 , she undertook study trips to South and Southeast Asia between April and May 1986 to preserve international plant genetic diversity and new biotechnologies. Subsequently, from January 1987 to March 1992 she worked for the IIZ and was a member of the international RAFI staff. She headed the RAFI office in Vienna and worked on the "Seeds of Survival" program for the conservation of plant genetic diversity and modern biotechnologies in Africa.

After her parental leave, Lachkovic worked as a freelance worker in development cooperation between April 1992 and December 1994 and gave lectures on biotechnology and seed conservation. Afterwards, between January 1995 and November 2008, she was entrusted with the coordination, administration and management of the office of the “Green Women Vienna” as well as the editorial and design support of the newspaper of the Green Women Vienna and the organization of events.

Politics and functions

Eva Lachkovics was a Green District Councilor in the third district of Landstrasse from December 1996 to October 2008 . Between 2001 and October 2003 she held the position of deputy chairwoman of the club of the Landstrasse Greens and was the club chairwoman from October 2003 until she left the district council. In the district council, Lachkovics was deputy chairman of the environmental committee and deputy chairman of the social commission.

From October 2008 to 2010 she represented the Greens as a member of the Vienna State Parliament and a member of the Vienna City Council. She replaced Alev Korun , who moved to the National Council. Lachkovics took on the topics of local supply, organic food and genetic engineering.

Since November 18, 2010: Deputy District Mayor for the 3rd District.

Lachkovics has been a member of the Women in Development Europe Network Austria (WIDE) since 1999 and was a board member of FIAN (FoodFirst Information and Action Network) Austria between 2003 and 2005. Since 2006 she has been a board member of the WIDE network Austria.

Private

Eva Lachkovics is divorced and has a daughter.
