Eva Möhler

Eva Möhler (born March 2, 1965 in Bonn ) is a German specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy as well as a university professor at the University of Heidelberg . She is the chief physician of the SHG clinics for child and adolescent psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatic medicine. Möhler is known for her work on parent-child interaction research with a special focus on risk factors for child abuse.

Life

Möhler studied medicine in Heidelberg and Bonn (1984–1991). She completed her clinical training at the State Psychiatric Hospital in Winnenden (1990–1992) and in the child and adolescent psychiatry department at Heidelberg University (1992–1993). After being recognized as a specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy at the University of Heidelberg, she was senior physician in the day-care department of child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Heidelberg (2006/2007) and chief physician at the Asklepios Specialist Clinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Lübben (2007/2008) . Möhler completed his habilitation in 2007 on the topic: "Determinants of emotional development in early childhood". Since 2008 she has been chief physician at the SHG clinics for child and adolescent psychiatry in Saarbrücken . In 2010 she accepted the appointment as professor at the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University.

On April 1, 2020 Möhler was appointed director of child and adolescent psychiatry at the Saarland University Hospital.

Scientific contribution

After completing his doctorate on transmembrane signal transmission processes on the cellular level, Möhler was working in parallel to his specialist training as part of several longitudinal studies, especially with early childhood predictors of abnormal behavioral development. On the basis of these studies, she completed her habilitation on the subject of 'Determinants of emotional development in childhood'. As one of the first child psychiatrists in Germany, Möhler was able to demonstrate connections between prenatal stress and behavioral development in human babies.

Another scientific focus of Möhler's research is parent-child interaction research, particularly with a focus on risk factors for child abuse . In her clinical work, she also concentrated on the treatment of abuse trauma, emotional dysregulation and parent-child interaction as part of her management function of a large clinic group, mainly localized in the Saarland, and took part in internationally competitive studies as well as the creation of the AWMF guidelines on mental disorders in early childhood. Möhler is the head of several clearing projects. For unaccompanied minor refugees she developed the short-term stabilization program START, which is culturally integrative and meanwhile throughout Germany. a. is also used at the universities of Mainz and Ulm. The usability of this program to promote psychological resilience and prevention in vulnerable young people of all nationalities is currently the subject of evaluation studies.

Möhler maintains international scientific collaborations with Harvard University and Colorado State University .
