Eva May (born May 29, 1902 in Vienna as Eva Maria Mandl ; † September 10, 1924 in Baden near Vienna ) was an Austrian silent film actress .

Life

The daughter of the director Joe May and his wife, the actress Mia May , grew up in Vienna, Hamburg and Berlin, where her parents were employed as important film artists. At the age of fifteen she was under the direction of her father for the first time in front of the camera.

From autumn 1918 she appeared in quick succession in productions by Ring-Film GmbH, which was directed by her first husband Erik Lund , actually Manfred Liebenau, who was married at an early age . Under the name "Erik Lund", Liebenau mostly directed it himself. The young actress quickly made a name for herself with these films. In 1920 she changed companies and directors. The director Lothar Mendes became her second husband, the director Manfred Noa her third.

The highly talented but capricious Eva May fell out with her parents several times. She was the fiancée of Rudolf Sieber until he met his future wife Marlene Dietrich . Thereupon Eva May tried to take her own life in 1923 by opening her wrists.

After trying in vain to marry her cousin, the cartridge manufacturer Fritz Mandl - who later married another actress with Hedy Lamarr - she shot herself. After her death, her mother Mia May stopped making films.
