Evan Imber-Black
Evan Imber-Black (born May 19, 1944 ) is an American psychiatrist and psychotherapist .
Life
Evan Imber-Black is Director of the Center for Families and Health at the Ackerman Institute for the Family . Before she came to New York , she worked at the University of Calgary and the University of Massachusetts . As a professor of psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine , Bronx , she founded the Urban Institute for Families and Family Therapy there . She also works in private practice. Evan Imber-Black specializes in couple and twin therapy. Many of her books have also been published in German.
Imber-Black is the editor of Family Process and works for the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy and the International Journal of Feminist Family Therapy . She sits on the Advisory Board of the Psychotherapy Networker and was the director of a study program for family and group therapy. She also trained a number of psychiatric nurses in systemic therapy . Her Urban Institute conducted live supervisions in clinics across the Bronx, publicly, with no walls.
Imber-Black was President of the American Family Therapy Academy (AFTA) from 1993 to 1995 . In terms of content, she has dealt with family therapy in all its forms, with family rituals and family secrets . She has written more than 50 scientific papers and published them in articles and books. Imber-Black is married to Lascelles Black and is the grandmother of two grandchildren.
Awards
- In 1990 she received the Award for Distinguished Contribution to Family Therapy Theory and Practice , which is presented by the AFTA .
- She was the 1999 Cumulative Contribution to Marriage and Family Therapy awarded by the AAMFT is awarded
