Evangelical Church in Obergimpern

The Evangelical Church in Obergimpern , a district of the large district town of Bad Rappenau in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg , was built on the site of an older chapel in 1764. Until the construction of the Catholic Church of St. Cyriak , the church served as a simultaneous church .

history

A chapel in Obergimpern was first mentioned in 1496. The St. The chapel, consecrated to Cyriak, became Lutheran during the Reformation in 1527 . In 1690 it began to be used as a simultaneous church, which has continued to grow even after the construction of today's St. The church building consecrated to Nepomuk was continued in 1764 by master builder Johann Peter Moll . After the local Catholic community had built the Church of St. Cyriak in 1904 , the Simultaneum ended. Since then the church has only been used by the Protestant parish.

Bells

In the late 19th century, the church had a three-part ring of bronze bells. The oldest bell was cast in 1818, had the strike note d '', a diameter of 68 cm and a weight of 190 kg. A bell from 1854 with a strike tone b ', a diameter of 80 cm and a weight of 310 kg, as well as a bell from 1868 with a strike tone f' ', a diameter of 54 cm and a weight of 95 kg rang out. The two larger bells had to be delivered for armaments purposes during the First World War .

The evangelical community, which was small in number, was only able to afford replacement bells in 1927 due to financial difficulties. The three bronze bells were cast at the Bachert bell foundry in Karlsruhe, with the material of the still preserved bell from 1868 being poured into the largest of the bells. The largest of the bronze bells from 1927 had the strike sound as', a diameter of 97 cm and a weight of 525 kg. Her inscription read PATIENT IN TRIBULATION! GOD WILL DO IT. It was decorated with a pattern of lines and crosses and had a reference to the previous bell on its neck. The middle bell had the strike tone c '', a diameter of 77 cm and a weight of 260 kg. Her inscription read STOP PRAYER! ROME. 12.12. It was decorated with a crucifix and had a frieze of thorn wattle on the neck. The smallest bell was the Paul Gerhardt bell with a strike tone `` es '', a diameter of 63.5 cm and a weight of 170 kg. Its inscription reads PAUL-GERHARDT-GLOCKE SEID MERRY IN HOPE, MY HEART IS PONDING AND CANNOT BE SAD, CAST ON 1.1.1927 BY BROTHERS BACHERT KARLSRUHE IB , it is decorated with a star frieze.

During the Second World War , the two larger bells had to be delivered again, so that initially only the Paul Gerhardt bell remained in the church. At the beginning of the 1950s, the parish bought a used bell from Bachert in Kochendorf , which had been cast in 1930 by Bachert in Karlsruhe for a five-part bell in Eberbach. This has the striking note of the '', a diameter of 72 cm and a weight of 238 kg. It bears the inscription ALL WORLD PRAISE THE LORD GIVEN BY EVANG. CHURCH CHOIR EVANG. MEN'S AND WORKERS 'ASSOCIATION AND OTHER DONORS - EBERBACH 1930. CAST BY BROTHERS BACHERT KARLSRUHE IB and adorned with flower friezes. In 1952 the three-part bell was completed by a new cast by Friedrich Wilhelm Schilling in Heidelberg. This bell has the strike note b ', a diameter of 85 cm and a weight of 381 kg. The bell bears a longer inscription with two quotes from the Bible and an indication that the bells were delivered twice.
