Evangelical Church in Rüdinghausen

The Evangelical Church is a Protestant church building in Rüdinghausen , a district of Witten ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

First church

The first church building was consecrated in Rüdinghausen in 1326, it was donated by the knight Gerhard von Witten. Up to this point in time the community belonged to St. Reinholdi in Dortmund . The small building was made of wood; In a chronicle nine male places as well as some farmers and kötter benches were mentioned. In the back there were some places for the residents from Annen .

Second church

The wooden church fell into disrepair over the centuries and was replaced by a new building in 1786, which only existed until 1830.

Third Church

Another church was built in 1830, it was used for services until the inauguration of today's church in May 1864. Then it was converted into apartments and classrooms. A community hall with a hall was added in the 1960s. Former church and meeting house were sold in the 1990s.

Today's church

The building was built according to plans by the Berlin architect Friedrich August Stüler in the arched style of the late 19th century. The Sermon Church is located in the middle of a cemetery, it was consecrated on May 11, 1864. Since 1976 the church has been a listed building in the city's list of monuments . From 1978 to 1982 it was restored according to the original findings, and new choir windows were installed in 1984 . The bell tower was renovated from 2005, the heavy steel bells had caused severe damage. The renovation was completed in 2009.

Bells

The three steel bells hanging in the tower were cast by the Bochumer Verein in 1870

  • The largest bell is tuned to the tone a¹, it has a diameter of 1045 mm and weighs 500 kg.
  • The second bell is tuned to the tone h¹, has a diameter of 890 mm and weighs 300 kg.
  • The third bell is tuned to tone e², it has a diameter of 735 mm and weighs 170 kg.

Clock chime

On a pedestal in front of the church is the old clock chime from 1836. It bears the inscription:

" IN HONOR OF THE MAN OF CHAMBERS FREIHER V ROMBERG WHO WE CAN THANK YOU THIS FROM GOTTFRIED RINCKER IN ELBERFELD * CAST FOR THE MUNICIPALITY OF RÜDINGHAUSEN IN 1835 "
