The Evangelical Church Horn or Stadtkirche Horn is an Evangelical Reformed church in Horn and belongs to the Blomberg class in the Lippe regional church . The church building is entered under number 01.4 in the list of architectural monuments in Horn-Bad Meinberg .

History and architecture

The exact age of the Horn Church is unknown. What is certain, however, is that a single-nave Romanesque church already existed when the city was founded (1248) . The lower part of the tower is dated to before 1200, the sound arcades date from the early 13th century. The rest of the church was expanded around 1480 on the old foundations to a three-aisled , two-bay hall church in the Gothic style.

After lightning damage in 1819, the tower roof and the bells had to be replaced, which is how today's Welsh tower dome was created . During a renovation in 1860, the roof of the central nave and choir was renewed.

Furnishing

The church furnishings include numerous historically significant objects:

  • The Lord's Supper is believed to date from around 1500.
  • A font from 1589 is based on the model in the Detmold Church of the Redeemer and, like this one, contains the inscription “Dorch dat Badt der Weddergebordt unde Vormiinge des Hilligen Gestes, the He rickliken uthgegraten heft aver uns dorch Jesum Christum, unsen Heilandt” (Titus 3, verses 5-6).
  • Wall sconce above the pulpit from 1592
  • In the central nave there are five brass chandeliers from Nuremberg. The largest of these hangs in the middle and was donated by the brewers' guild in 1708, the four smaller ones by the town council of Horn.

A 142 × 92 cm large, sandstone epitaph for Cordt von Mengersen († 1561) used to be on the west side of the altar. It shows a kneeling knight with folded hands and Christ hanging on the cross across from him. An angel hovers over both of them, holding a wreath with a bow on which the inscription Ecce agnus dei qui tollit peccata mundi omnis ( behold , this is God's Lamb who bears sin all over the world ) is written. In the frame is the inscription Anno Domini 1561 The 8th roof of Decembris Is the Erbar Cordt Von Mengersen died in Christ. Godt Be Mercy To Selenium. Amen.

The organ front dates from the late 17th century, the builder is unknown. In 1830, Michael Oestreich , a grandson of Johann-Markus Oestreich , renewed the organ using the existing case. Further new buildings were built in 1913 by the Lemgo company Friedrich Klassmeier and in 1968 by Paul Ott from Göttingen.
