Evangelical Church Uchtelfangen
The Protestant church Uchtelfangen is a baroque church building in the district of Uchtelfangen in the Saarland community of Illingen . It is a listed monument as a single monument.
history
In the last quarter of the 16th century, the Reformation was introduced in the areas of Nassau-Saarbrücken and Ottweiler . A Protestant community for Uchtelfangen was first mentioned in 1613. At that time, a simultaneous contract stipulated that the no longer preserved church of the place should be used jointly by Protestant and Catholic Christians. In 1770, by order of Prince Ludwig zu Nassau-Saarbrücken, the foundation stone was laid for a Protestant church in Uchtelfangen. The architect is not known, but Friedrich Joachim Stengel or Johann Jakob Lautemann are suspected . In 1772 the new church was inaugurated.
Uchtelfangen was looked after by the pastor of Dirmingen until the end of the 19th century, before the parish of Uchtelfangen became independent in 1892. In 1895 the church received two bells.
In 1906 a church building association was founded to demolish the church, which had meanwhile become dilapidated, and to replace it with a new building. In 1914 the community submitted a new building plan for a church, but the royal conservator's office in Trier protested that the old baroque church was classified as worthy of preservation. After the First World War, the plans were abandoned.
In 1923, architect Carl-Friedrich Schlück presented a reconstruction plan for the church, which was then carried out. The square floor plan was shifted to today's long-term trend, a neo-baroque apse was added, the tower was raised and covered with a bellied hood. Two years later, the bells melted down during the war were replaced by cast steel bells.
After the church was damaged in World War II, reconstruction began in 1953. In 1992 the church was extensively restored.
architecture
The baroque church is a simple hall building with three window axes on the eaves. The retracted choir with a semicircular end also has three windows and sits on the south side. A church tower on an almost square floor plan was placed in front of the hall on the north side . There is a small sacristy in the southwest corner . You enter the hall building via a side portal in the tower, which is made of yellow sandstone and is covered by a curved gable with a cross.
Furnishing
The three church windows in the choir are from 1926: the middle colored window shows the risen Christ, the other two are bright. The right shows the head of Martin Luther and the inscription "A strong castle is our God", the left the head of Johannes Calvin and the inscription "God's word remains forever". The interior of the church is kept simple. The stone pulpit is in the hall and is accessed by stairs from the choir. The baptismal font is in the choir, where the altar is also located.
organ
The organ dates from 1994 by Gerhard Kuhn Orgelbau ( Esthal ). It has mechanical play and stop action . The disposition is:
