Evangelical Luke Community

The Evangelical Luke Community is a female Evangelical community within the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover . She bears the name of the Evangelist Luke and lives in the tradition of the Benedictine women in a monastic community. It is independent of the church and lives the confession of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.

History and self-image

The community was founded in Hanover in 1974 and has its headquarters here. The spiritual and diaconal center is located in Bergen an der Dumme in the Belau district. Community life is based on the rules of the order of Saint Benedict , these also determine everyday life, which is essentially based on the basic rule of " pray and work ". The Lord's Supper is celebrated together every Saturday evening . In addition to prayer and the interpretation of the Gospel , organic horticulture and animal welfare are important . There is also the possibility of living in the monastery for a certain period of time, this " monastery for a time " is prepared individually and designed personally. The concern for the Germans returning from Russia has established itself as a special focus , in addition, the community also cares for people whose health was affected by the Chernobyl reactor accident .

The community is open to Evangelical Lutheran women between the ages of 18 and 35; they should have completed vocational training and agree to monastic life. The applicants first receive theoretical and practical training and then enter a postulate of up to one year. This is followed by a period of at least three years as a novice , after which the profession is made .
