The Evangelical Lutheran parish church Oberschützen is located in the municipality of Oberschützen in the Oberwart district in Burgenland . The church belongs to the Superintendentur AB Burgenland and is a listed building .

history

The population of Oberschützen had already accepted the Reformation in the 16th century and remained predominantly Protestant even during the Counter Reformation . Immediately after the tolerance patent of 1781, a parish was founded, which initially included Oberwart and Unterschützen. Construction of the church began in 1783; on November 27, 1785 it was inaugurated. The tower was built in 1803 by the builder Matthias Preising from Pinkafeld. In 1861/1862 there was a renovation with an increase in the nave and the installation of a new facility. In 1863 the tower was repaired.

From 1818 to 1848 Gottlieb August Wimmer worked as a pastor at the church. In 1845 he founded a "poor school teacher seminar" and in 1846 the Protestant grammar school Oberschützen . Because of his participation in the Hungarian revolution , he had to emigrate to Germany. One of his successors was Theophil Beyer , from 1916 pastor and from 1924 to 1940 at the same time first superintendent of the superintendent of AB Burgenland .

architecture

The large rectangular church building has two rows of windows and a round arch frieze on the long walls. The west tower has a richly decorated upper floor and wears an onion helmet. On the east wall there is a small sacristy extension with a five-eighth closure .

The nave appears as a bright room without yoke division under a flat ceiling with a gallery on three sides on cast iron supports.

Furnishing

The pulpit altar was created in 1862 by the master carpenter Schranz with the gilder Franz Rohrer. The high altar structure shows an altarpiece by Carl Johann Nepomuk Hemerlein between columns and has a pulpit over a cornice between vase pedestals and a canopy-like sound cover over a back wall.

The baptismal font has a humped marble bowl as a foundation from 1785 and has a plastic group of Anabaptists on the lid.

The organ was built by Carl Hesse (1862).
