The Württembergischer Christusbund ( Württembergischer Brüderbund until the end of 2011 ) is a Christian community association within the Protestant Church in the form of a free work. The legal form of the Christ Covenant is that of a registered association . The central event of each local group is the community service (formerly "community hour").
Working method
The Württemberg Christ Association is involved in Christian community work with a focus on child and youth work. The work is mainly carried out by volunteers who are supported by some employed youth officers and community pastors. In addition, the Württemberg Christ Association offers around 100 Christian leisure time and trips annually through a catalog called "Beacon". In addition, the Christ Association has its own leisure homes in Friolzheim, Pellworm (North Sea), Allgäu (on Forggensee and in Oberstdorf), Carinthia ( Kantor Castle on Lake Millstatt ) and Croatia. They are managed by full-time employees together with young people who do a voluntary social year or the federal voluntary service. Since the 1960s, the Christ Association has been organizing theological and spiritual training for its volunteers and other interested parties in the form of one-week short Bible schools, which usually take place around the turn of the year.
Belief base
The Württemberg Christ Association works on the theological basis of the Evangelical Alliance . The inerrancy of the Bible, a corresponding proclamation of the Christian message and prayer are of central importance to the members. The Christ Federation and its local associations are recognized as a pietistic group within the Evangelical Church in Württemberg . For example, the regional bishop of Ulm and later regional bishop Gerhard Maier congratulated the local association Berghülen on its 70th anniversary with the words: “I wish him (the Württ. Christusbund Berghülen) lively gratitude for what God has done to the generations before us. I wish him permanent rooting in the divine history of salvation, which God's word reveals to us. And finally I wish him that he will remain a missionary group of disciples determined by the love of God and man. "
history
In 1878 the Protestant "Reichsbrüderbund" was founded in Lissa near Posen . The community association was decisively influenced and shaped in the phase of its creation by Johannes Seitz from Neuweiler in the Black Forest, who had organized local biblical circles into a "brother union". The Brotherhood first spread in East Germany . They called themselves Reichsbrüderbund because they believed in the imminent return of Jesus Christ to establish his kingdom. In 1933 there was a politically enforced reform. At that time, the "Württemberg Brethren Association" was established in the Rems Valley and was incorporated into the superordinate Evangelical Gnadauer Community Association. After the Second World War , the Württemberger Brüderbund took over the tradition of the Eastern League.
In 1934, Day of Repentance Conferences were started, the tradition of which has been continued since 1995 as the “Christ meeting”, but was moved to a Sunday because the public holiday was no longer applicable.

The theological direction of the community association is carried out by the chairman, Matthias Köhler and his deputy Klaus Eberwein. Well-known chairmen were among others Friedrich Hänssler , the head of the evangelical publishing house of the same name , and pastor Dr. Heiko Krimmer .

Local communities
The individual local communities with ten to 200 worshipers are independent, but are also involved in joint district tasks. For example, they jointly organize Christian concerts, employee training courses, evangelism , youth and women’s get-togethers, men’s snacks and tea rooms. In addition, there are larger events organized by the general association, such as annual district and association conferences, the “dynamis” youth meeting initiated by Friedrich Hänssler in the early 1950s, and the “Christustreff” annual conference. Today the Württemberg Christ Association includes communities in 52 villages and towns.
