The Lutheran Schulzentrum Michel Bach (ESZM) in Michel an der Bilz is adjacent to the light star high school in Sachsenheim and the First Forest College in Mossingen one of the three schools of the University Foundation of the Evangelical Church and consists of junior high school , Aufbaugymnasium G9 and school G8 with boarding . School fees between 580 euros and 1450 euros per month are charged (boarding school), the all-day school is a maximum of 254 euros.

history

The school center is located in Schloss Michelbach an der Bilz, which was built in 1609 . Wilhelm Schenk von Limpurg had it built for Dorothea Countess zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg after he had married the widow. The countess died in 1631 without ever having lived in the property. The main building remained uninhabited for centuries and was used for agricultural purposes, in the attached Small Castle there were office and living quarters of the forester and at times also the apartment of a Countess von Löwenstein. In the early 20th century, consideration was given to selling the property for demolition.

In 1926, the reform pedagogue Ludwig Wunder (1878–1949) founded a rural education home in the castle and moved in with the first students. One of the lease conditions was the restoration of the building within nine years, which surprisingly took half that time. In 1935 the Evangelical Church in Württemberg took over the lease. In 1946, the Evangelical Church in Württemberg established a church teacher training institute in the building with Pastor Stockburger as the first headmaster. From 1951 the training restriction to the teaching profession was dropped. The school has been an advanced high school since 1953.

On July 15, 2012, the ESM organized an evangelical television service under the title "" Go with the tailwind of love "".

On November 9, 2016, the school entered into a cooperation with the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns . Since the 2017 school year, students who have registered for the Academy have been receiving football training on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in addition to normal lessons.

School types

The school consists of a Realschule and a Gymnasium. The Aufbaugymnasium (G9) begins with grades 8 or 11. It is a full-day school four days a week. A boarding school is attached to the school.

Educational concept

The concept includes independent learning and working with free work, subject teaching and project work.

Profile compartments

The school has the profile subjects music, diakonia, NaTuR (science, technology and religion), each with a high practical component.

Diakonia

Diakonia has been taught as a core subject from year 9 onwards since 1996 . This makes the school a Germany-wide pioneer in the implementation of diaconal and social learning. In the 11th grade there is a compulsory diaconal internship.

music

Grades 5 to 7 focus on musical education. This is continued as a profile subject until the end of school. There are individual instrumental lessons for everyone.

Nature, technology and religion

This is an interdisciplinary lesson that seeks dialogue between the natural sciences and theology. In addition to practical content (surveying internship, natural engineering processes, rocket construction), it is also about the dialogue with theology, both ethically (are we allowed to do everything we can?) And about the interpretations and truth claims of the knowledge acquired (creation theory and scientific worldviews).

Boarding school

Boarding school is possible from the beginning of the 8th grade. The boarding school is mainly attended by students from the advanced high school and has around 150 places. It is headed by René Wahl.

Awards

  • In 2003, the ESM received the Barbara Schadeberg Prize, endowed with 5,000 euros, for its social diaconal orientation.
  • In 2008 the school's mixed chamber choir received silver in category VI of the 6th “Venezia in Musica” & 2nd International Choir Competition in Lido di Jesolo , Venice , Italy.
  • In 2010, Juri de Marco from the Evangelical School Center Michelbach was the only individual winner of the FrancoMusiques chanson competition with "Soyez Multicolores"
