Evangelista da Pian di Meleto

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Evangelista da Pian di Meleto (* around 1458 in Piandimeleto , † January 18, 1549 in Urbino ) was an Italian painter .

Evangelista da Pian di Meleto was a student of Giovanni Santi from 1483 . It seems as if he never had great ambitions to earn his money as an independent master, because in the following years he mainly worked as an employee in the workshops of various painters such as Timoteo Viti and Ottaviano Prassede . Around 1500 he must have been in Giovanni Santi's workshop again, because on December 10th, together with the young Raphael , he was commissioned to create a large altarpiece for the Baronci Chapel in the Church of Sant'Agostino in Città di Castello .

Today only a few works are ascribed to the Evangelista da Pian di Meleto.
