The Evans Knoll is a largely snow-covered hill in the west Antarctic Ellsworthland , on the north side of the confluence of the Pine Island Glacier in the Pine Island Bay of the Amundsen Sea . It is located around 17 km southwest of the Webber Nunatak and marks the southwest end of the Hudson Mountains .
The hill was mapped using aerial photographs taken by the United States Navy as part of Operation Highjump 1946–1947. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1968 after Donald J. Evans, who studied the long-wave emissions of the upper atmosphere at Byrd Station from 1960 to 1961 .
An automatic weather station from the University of Wisconsin – Madison worked at Evans Knoll from January 11, 2011 to January 14, 2019 .
