Eve-Claudine Lorétan (* 1969 , † 1998 ), known by the stage name Coco , was a Swiss model and the first prominent Swiss transsexual .

Life

Lorétan was in Thun born as Marc-Patric Lorétan and completed the Matura at the Gymnasium Seefeld, while they continued their education as "Coco" to model. In 1990 she decided to surgically match her gender and was also legally recognized as a woman from 1992.

The operation was documented by Paul Riniker in his documentary Dream Mrs. Coco . In 1991 an unusually large number of viewers - 660,000 people - saw the film on Swiss television . Coco and with her the topic of transsexuality became known nationwide.

The film helped Coco gain wide popularity and initially promoted her modeling career. Her physical and mental health deteriorated noticeably. She became depressed and psychotic and suffered from osteoporosis as a result of sex reassignment . In 1997, the manuscript of her autobiography was stolen, and Coco began to prostitute herself out of financial need. She committed suicide in the fall of 1998 at the age of 29.

In addition to the film Traum Frau Coco (1991), Coco's life is also the subject of the musical Coco - A Transgendermusical (2018) by the author Alexander Seibt and the musician Markus Schönholzer. In the play Coco is played by Mariananda Schempp, her male body by Gabriel Schneider.

In 2019 the photographer Olivier G. Fatton published the illustrated book "Coco". It contains images from the five years that Fatton was associated with Coco and a biographical text by Dunia Miralles.
