Marc-Olivier Dupin (born August 30, 1954 in Paris ) is a French musician , composer and university teacher who has held a number of management positions in French musical life.

life and work

Dupin originally studied violin. In 1972 he was admitted to the Paris Conservatory , where he received several awards. From 1977 to 1983 he was a professor at the Conservatoire du 6e Arrondissement in Paris. From 1983 to 1984 he worked for the Orchester des Pays de Loire. He then headed a number of music schools: from 1985 the École Normale de Musique (ENM) in Villeurbanne , from 1987 the ENM in Créteil , from 1990 the Conservatoire National de Région La Courneuve / Aubervilliers and finally from 1993 to 2000 the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP). At the same time as his Paris function, he was also General Secretary of the European Conservatories Association (AEC).

He then served as advisor to the Minister of Culture, Jack Lang , for five years . From 2002 to 2008 he was General Director of the Orchester national d'Île-de-France . In 2004 he founded the music publisher Tsipka Dripka . In 2008 he was appointed director of France Musique and in 2009 music director of Radio France . He resigned in February 2011, giving both personal and institutional reasons. He wanted to have more time for his three young children and his compositional work.

Since January 2013 he has been President of the Institut technologique européen des métiers de la musique (ITEMM).

Marc-Olivier Dupin has composed in a variety of genres, including arrangements and orchestrations of classical pieces, compositions for the classroom, and numerous works for the stage and film. His catalog raisonné includes a number of operas and a ballet ( Les enfants du Paradis , 2008). He created the incidental music for several productions by Brigitte Jaques ( Suréna , 1995; Le Cid , 2005; Tartuffe , 2009) and wrote scores for several silent films ( Salome , 2001; Nana , 2002; Monte Cristo , 2006) as well as for documentaries ( De Gaulle vu d'ailleurs , 1991; Dali , 1998; Le mur de l'Atlantique , 2010). He publishes in his own publishing house, Tsipka Dripka, and also with Alphonse Leduc .
