Everardus Alemannus

Everardus Alemannus (also Eberhardus Bremensis, Eberhard the German, Eberhard von Bremen, Eberhardus Teutonicus, Everardo di Germania, Eberhardus Alemannus, Everardus Teutonicus, Evrard l'Allemand) was a German cleric, teacher, grammarian, rhetorician, magister, schoolmaster and poet of the first half of the 13th century.

Around 1250 Everardus presumably taught as rector scolarium (schoolmaster) at the cathedral school in Bremen . The scholastic studied in Paris and Orléans and is known as the author of Laborintus (also Laborinthus ), a didactic poem about a thousand verses (mostly distiches ) on the technique of poetics . The title is an artificial word made up of labyrinthus ('labyrinth') and labor ('work'). The work was widely read in the late Middle Ages. The creative period is to be settled between 1212 and 1280.
