Everything changes -

Everything Changes is the sixth and so far last album by the singer Julian Lennon . It was released in the UK in October 2011 and internationally in June 2013 with two additional songs.

Emergence

After Lennon had released his album Photograph Smile in 1998, he withdrew from the music business. He devoted himself to charity projects, was active as a producer of the documentary Whaledreamers in 2006 and devoted himself to photography from 2010. When asked why he was releasing a new album after a long time, Lennon replied in 2009: “I can't change it - I just come up with melodies and ideas for lyrics, whether I want to or not. Sometimes it really torments me, so I think I have to get rid of it somehow and write it down ”. In an interview in 2011 he added: “I get restless when I can't pick up a guitar or sit at the piano every now and then. [...] I have to do this, I have no choice ”.

The album was created over a longer period of time. The instrumentation was largely done in collaboration with friends on Lennon's estate, so backgrounds or bass lines were sometimes recorded during visits from friends - a work that Lennon described in retrospect as pleasant.

The album was already finished in 2007 and 2008 and even the title was fixed; however, publication was delayed several times. When Lucy Vodden, Lennon's former school friend and inspiration for the Beatles' title Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, died in 2009, Lennon released the charity single Lucy in memory of Vodden after an eleven year musical break . The 4-track EP, which was released in December 2009, was also a first extraction from Everything Changes with Beautiful . At this point, the album was due to be released in spring 2010. Lennon's album was finally released on October 3, 2011 in the UK and Ireland. The track Lookin '4 Luv was released as a single on September 11, 2011 .

The cover shows a black hand in front of a blue butterfly. In the butterfly, water, sky and clouds seem to mix. The hand, on the other hand, seems to have been dipped into the water, creating circles. Above the illustration is the word Everything Changes , aligned with a circle, and Julian Lennon's signature is also curved below the illustration. For him, the title Everything Changes is a constant reminder that things are changing, and he hopes for the better, Lennon said in 2011.

Starting in June 2013, the album Everything Changes was also released internationally with the additional songs Someday (Feat. Steven Tyler) and In Between .

On December 11, 2013, an acoustic version of the album with 14 songs was released in download format.

Further information

Lennon recorded piano, guitar, bass, Wurlitzer and drums on the album and programmed the strings and keyboards.

He described the songs on the album as "a little catchier than my previous releases" and stated that he thought the album was his best yet. It is an album "about life, and about things that we have to deal with every day".

In late 2009, Lennon described Beautiful as the slowest and most emotional track on the album; it is about the people he and his friends have already lost in life.

criticism

Andrew Perry of the Daily Telegraph was Everything Changes 2 of 5 stars and wrote that the album "a lazy exercise in dogmatic, pseudo- Imagine is -mäßigem Rumgequäle about the wickedness of the world," do not help the Lennon, finally out of the shadow of his father to kick.

The Daily Express gave it 3 out of 5 stars and found that some tracks had "something of the charm of the best John Lennon songs", Julian Lennon's voice was similar to his father's and the atmosphere of the album was as relaxed and mature as it could be would be expected by someone who is now nearly fifty. The conclusion was: “Nice stuff”.
