Evidon, formerly Ghostery, is a technology company based in New York City . It develops software for publishers, advertising networks and companies to give them insights into consumer behavior. It also offers customers software that enables so-called tracking systems to be recognized and monitored.

Company history

Evidon was founded in 2009 by Scott Meyer, Colin O'Malley and Ed Kozek. The company is an investment by Warburg Pincus .

In 2010, the company acquired the Ghostery browser tool, which was developed by David Cancel in January 2009 and is software that alerts users to hidden services (trackers) when surfing the Internet. These services normally run in the background unnoticed by the user and are intended to transmit private data to different website operators. Ghostery offers the possibility to block them permanently in order to better protect privacy on the Internet. In addition to its headquarters in New York, Evidon has a branch in San Francisco and, since 2011, in London for the European region .

Evidon offers international software solutions for online marketers, agencies, publishers and companies. The “Evidon InForm” product, for example, contains a platform for companies that supports self-regulation for online advertising through simple navigation. "Evidon Encompass" can detect trackers and tags that affect page loading time or cause other undesirable effects. "Evidon InLight" helps the user to identify data leaks and to recognize which companies are trying to collect data from their sites. Evidon is a member of the Online Trust Alliance (OTA).

In 2014 the company was renamed Ghostery, Inc.

On February 15, 2017, the retail business and brand name of Ghostery was acquired by Cliqz . At the same time, the company renamed itself Evidon again. Evidon will henceforth focus on business customers. The Ghostery software for private users is now operated by Cliqz.
