Ewa Wiśniewska (born April 25, 1942 in Warsaw ) is a Polish actress .

Life

At the age of 15, Wiśniewska won a beauty contest organized by Film magazine and had her first acting experience with short appearances in Andrzej Wajda's The Canal (1957) and Andrzej Munks The Cross-Eyed Luck (1959). In 1963 she obtained a diploma from the State Theater School (PWST) in Warsaw and in the following years played at the capital city theaters Teatr Ludowy, Teatr Kwadrat and Teatr Nowy and received awards at various theater festivals.

She played her first major film role in Janusz Nasfeter's crime film The Murderer and the Girl in 1963 . During the 1960s and 1970s she took on numerous roles in television comedies and dramas. She appeared in several television series that were also broadcast on German television, including Seconds Deciding (1967/68) and Janosik, Held der Berge (1973). Since the 1980s, she has been regularly given more demanding roles in movies. Among the best-known are Tadeusz Konwicki's literary adaptation Dolina Issy (1982) based on Czesław Miłosz and the title role in Ryszard Ber's Cudzoziemka (1986), for which she won the award for best actress at the Polish National Film Festival in Gdansk . In 2000 she was named Best Supporting Actress for her role in Jerzy Hoffman's With Fire and Sword .

Wiśniewska was also awarded several state awards, including the Silver Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland in 1979.
