Excitebike ( Japaneseエ キ サ イ ト バ イ クEkisaitobaiku ) is one of the very early games for the Nintendo Entertainment System . It was released in 1984 and produced by Nintendo , with Shigeru Miyamoto as the producing director . It is a racing game (motocross) in which you try to complete two laps of a track on a motorcycle as quickly as possible. For graphical reasons, there are no curves, but an always straight route. The routes are extended by restrictions such as different hills, puddles or narrowing. The 5 routes can be contested either alone or with computer-generated opponents, but the game itself is only accessible to one user (no multiplayer mode).

particularities

A special feature is an editor with which you can set up your own routes, which, like lap records, cannot be saved and are lost after switching off.

Ports

Sequels

On the one hand, Excitebike 64 is available for the Nintendo 64 . That is a three-dimensional motocross racing game and can therefore be seen as the direct sequel. It is more simulation-heavy, so it offers realistic driving physics, but the special features of the original are still there, such as the route editor, the turbo and the high and long jumps that require the most accurate landing possible.

On the other hand, there is the so-called Excite Truck , which appeared in Europe in 2007 for the Wii . Here, too, the actual features of the series have been retained, with the exception of the route editor, but the player does not drive motorbikes, but rather with pick-ups or buggies, for example. In addition to the motion-sensitive control typical of the Wii, so-called terraforming is characteristic of the game. If the player drives through certain symbols, the environment changes, for example a ski jump rises from the ground in front of the player.

Trivia

In the fun racer Mario Kart 8 , also produced by Nintendo, there is the Excitebike Arena racetrack in the "Egg Cup" with newly arranged music as a tribute to the original game. This route is part of the 1st DLC pack, which must be downloaded for a fee.
