The goods railcars 21 and 22 are two electric railcars still preserved today at the Extertalbahn , both of which are listed . Since they were mainly used as tow cars, they are often classified as electric locomotives .

history

In 1926, the newly founded Extertalbahn AG ordered two four-axle freight railcars with bogies from the Norddeutsche Waggonfabrik in Bremen . On June 30, 1927, the wagon construction part was completed, after which they were delivered to Barntrup on their own axles . There was from the AEG electrical equipment installed.

The freight railcars were put into service with the numbers 21 and 22. Both were constructed the same and had each one luggage and mail compartment . The power supply with 1500 volts direct current is provided by a centrally arranged pantograph . Originally, these were designed with two contact strips with a greater distance between them, but it was not until the late 1950s that they were given the shape of the pantograph that is common today. With the route conditions of the Extertalbahn, the vehicles were designed for operation with a trailer load of 250 t.

Since the Extertalbahn AG owned several tram-like passenger railcars, the two freight railcars received a central trumpet coupling in addition to the normal screw coupling , which is no longer used today. The arrangement of the headlights in a V-shape, which is atypical for railway vehicles, was also striking . It was later converted to today's A-shape.

In 1964, railcar 22 suffered an accident, as a result of which the vehicle was converted. The general cargo compartment has been removed. Outwardly, the most striking thing is the enlargement of the window areas on the driver's cabs. Ballast was installed to increase the frictional load and thus the tensile force . He also received new starting resistors . However, there was not enough money to bring railcar 21 up to the same level. Since then, the vehicles have differed significantly from each other.

Over the decades, both railcars have been repainted again and again. Dark green, brown, burgundy and orange with one and two green stripes are known as color schemes. The color in which they were delivered is not documented.

Both vehicles were in freight train service until 2001. Since then, railcar 21 has been parked in the locomotive shed in Bösingfeld after the deadline . Since it is the only vehicle of the Extertalbahn that has been preserved true to the original, it should be kept rolling over the long term. Railcar 22 was initially parked in August 2009, but then received a general inspection by the voluntary association Landeseisenbahn Lippe e. V. and has been back in action between Bösingfeld and Alverdissen since May 2013. The locomotive has been given the color from the 1960s (red with two white stripes). The series number 0493 was assigned to him by the vehicle register of the Federal Railway Authority.
