history

The company was founded in 1868 by William S. Smith as a manufacturer of coarse fabrics and blinds in Krems / Stein. The namesake of the company, Karl Eybl , acquired the company in 1905 and specialized in the production of coconut carpets and floor mats. In the 1960s, Eybl began producing textile car accessories and extensive expansion of the company at the Stein location .

In the early 1980s, the company moved to its current location in the Krems industrial park. In 1984 Eybl achieved a European breakthrough as an automotive supplier with the product "Henkel plush". In the 1990s, the establishment of the "ready-to-wear" division (cutting and sewing fabric and leather seat covers) resulted in a further increase in sales. As part of a restructuring, subsidiaries in Brazil and the United States were closed in 2000 and 2002.

On June 5, 1998, the company went public on EASDAQ , on September 19, 2003 the company switched to the Vienna Stock Exchange and was listed on the Prime Market of the Vienna Stock Exchange until 2008. As a result of the international automobile crisis, Eybl filed for bankruptcy in December 2008. By resolution of the Extraordinary General Meeting on April 7, 2009, the operative business was sold to the Slovenian-German company Prevent DEV GmbH . The judicial settlement procedure was successfully concluded in May 2009.

The company's name was changed to EAG-Beteiligungs Aktiengesellschaft by resolution of the ordinary general meeting on July 8, 2009 for trademark reasons . In addition, the headquarters were relocated from Krems an der Donau to Vienna . With effect from July 30, 2009, trading began in the Third Market ( MTF ) of the Vienna Stock Exchange. The name change was announced on September 9, 2009.

In 2009 the company had production sites in Gmünd, Trier , Krems, Deta (Romania) , Jánosháza (Hungary), Körmend (Hungary), Lenti (Hungary), Nagykanizsa (Hungary) and Puchov (Slovakia). The Trier production site was closed at the end of 2009.
