Eye of the Tiger was released in 1982 as Survivor's third album and was the most successful album of their career.

history

The big break for Survivor came in 1982 when they were asked by actor Sylvester Stallone to write the theme song for his movie Rocky III . Stallone had heard the song Poor Man's Son and was looking for a song with a similar vibe. The band agreed to write him a song and soon released Eye of the Tiger . The song had a huge impact on the US Billboard charts , reaching number 1 on July 24, 1982, where it stayed at the top for a total of six weeks and 25 weeks on the singles charts. It also topped the UK charts. The song was in the top 40 for six weeks and was Australia's number 1 for four weeks. In the Federal Republic of Germany the title reached the top 20. The song won a Grammy , was voted “Best New Song” at the People's Choice Awards and received an Academy Award nomination . With this smash hit and the other top 20 hit American Heartbeat (# 17 US), the album Eye of the Tiger came to number 2 on the US album charts.
