Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre
The Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre (FNMT-RCM) is the banknote printer and mint of the Kingdom of Spain . The FNMT-RCM, based in Madrid, is a public company under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration ( Ministerio de Hacienda y Administraciones Públicas ).
Production takes place in Madrid ( Spanish euro coins ) and Burgos ( euro banknotes ).
history
Coinage was monopolized under Philip V (18th century). During the reign of Isabella II there were seven mints ( Madrid , Barcelona , Seville , Pamplona , Jubia , Segovia and Manila ). From 1869 there was only the site in Madrid.
In 1893 the mint Casa de la Moneda and the stamp factory Fábrica del Sello , both in the Plaza de Colón , were merged and renamed to their current name.
The production of banknotes ( peseta ) for the Bank of Spain by the FNMT-RCM began in 1940.
museum
Since 1867 the FNMT-RCM or its predecessor organization has operated its own money museum (Museo Casa de la Moneda) in Madrid not far from the head office.
