society

Giovanni Simeone was born in the Spanish capital, Madrid, as his father Diego was playing for Atlético Madrid at the time . When his father changed clubs, the family lived in Italy and Spain before they moved to Argentina, their father's homeland. In 2008 Giovanni Simeone was accepted into the junior division of the Argentine record champions CA River Plate , whose professional team was coached by his father. At the age of 16, the young striker received a professional contract in November 2011 and was appointed to the squad for the first time in August 2013.

On August 4, 2013 he made his league debut in the 0-1 defeat on the first day of play against Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata over the full 90 minutes. Until the end of the season, he was then only used as a substitute and was not able to prevail over the experienced competitors Fernando Cavenaghi and Teófilo Gutiérrez permanently. River Plate won the 2014 Torneo Final and also won the subsequent superfinal 1-0 against CA San Lorenzo de Almagro . Simeone came on as a substitute for Cavenaghi at halftime in the final. He also won the Copa Sudamericana 2014 with River Plate and then the Recopa . In the Copa Libertadores 2015 , the striker was on the bench in the second group match against UANL Tigres , but was not used. River Plate later emerged as the tournament winner. At the time of the final, Simeone was already loaned out to league rivals CA Banfield . At Banfield he was able to prevail and was a regular and most successful goalscorer until his return to River Plate in June 2016.

After the 2016 Olympic Games, Simeone was signed by the Italian first division club CFC Genoa . In the summer of 2017, Simeone moved to Genoa's league rivals Fiorentina .

In the summer of 2019, Simeone switched to Cagliari Calcio on loan with a subsequent purchase obligation . With the Sardinians , the striker signed a contract until June 30, 2024.
