Félix Braz

Félix Braz (born March 16, 1966 in Differdange ) is a Luxembourg politician and journalist .

Life

Félix Braz began his professional career in 1990 as a presenter and editor-in-chief of a Portuguese-language news program on RTL Radio Lëtzebuerg .

From 1991 to 2001 he was Parliamentary Secretary of the Greens in Luxembourg. In 2004 he was elected to the Luxembourg parliament for the first time . In the following elections in 2009 and 2013, he managed to return.

At the local level, he was a member of the municipal council in Esch an der Alzette from 1995 to 2000 . From 2000 to 2011 he was alderman of the city of Esch.

Since December 4, 2013, Braz was Minister of Justice in the Bettel-Schneider government . He was the first Luxembourg minister with Portuguese roots. In the following cabinet he also held the post of vice premier. In August 2019, Braz suffered a heart attack from which he was slow to recover and which caused him to leave the government. Minister of Culture Sam Tanson initially took over the post at the head of the Ministry of Justice , and then permanently from September 2019, with François Bausch becoming the new Deputy Prime Minister .
