Remedial teacher

Remedial teachers are specially trained teachers in the Bavarian school system. Through their use, differences between the students in terms of learning history, learning path, ability and learning goal are to be balanced out by means of individualizing measures for individual students and student groups. Outside Bavaria, special needs teachers are neither trained nor deployed. Since 1970 special needs teachers have supported the work in elementary schools , middle schools and special needs schools . They are part of the individual student support and the differentiation of the lessons.

The tasks of the remedial teacher are regulated in Article 60, Paragraph 1 of the Bavarian Law on Education . education

The training takes place at the Bavarian State Institute for the training of special needs teachers in Bayreuth and Freising . It is divided into a three-year training course at the institute and a subsequent two-year preparatory service. An entrance exam takes place before the training begins.
