Filler fiber

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Filling fibers are loose fibers, filament bundles without twisting (filler cables) or fiber fleeces suitable for filling bedding and quilted fabrics.

Unspun, loose fibers

The following unspun, loose fibers for filling bedding and quilted fabrics are suitable: fiberfill , synthetic special fibers with a high and stable bulk - mostly polyester-based - as well as natural silk , wool and precious hair .

Unspun natural silk is used for light quilts that are perceived as pleasantly cool in summer, the filling quantity is 800 to 1200 grams. The material must be carefully prepared and cleaned in order to prevent mite infestation and the resulting allergies with asthma attacks . Wild silk must be deburred. If unspun new wool is used as filler fiber, it must be of high quality and prepared for this purpose. Lightweight cotton tricot covers are preferred for rheumatoid rugs .

Fiberfill fleece

Thermally pre-compacted Fiberfill nonwovens are easier to process. The quilting must form compartments, as these fleeces do not hold together sufficiently tightly and could change their position when carried or cleaned.

Fixed fleece webs

Nonwoven webs can be made more tear-resistant with appropriate treatments. With fleeces from 40 g / m², the surface is lightly sprayed with an adhesive substance, whereby the handle must not become sticky. Or the fleece is siliconized in the immersion bath and thus made water-repellent at the same time, while the material retains a soft grip.

Synthetic nonwovens for bedding and quilted fabrics should be moisture-repellent and should not stick together after prolonged exposure to moisture. This makes them particularly suitable for holiday apartments, camping, tent and boat equipment. They are hostile to bacteria, free of dust and lint and easy to care for.
