The prince-bishop's office is in the main street of the city of Volkach . It is also called Echterhof.

history

A labor court of the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg , where the citizens of the city paid their taxes, already existed in Volkach in the 15th century. The old building was falling into disrepair. This situation did not change until September 15, 1605. The building was restored and again performed its old task. Valentin Echter von Mespelbrunn , brother of Prince-Bishop Julius, played a key role in the new building .

After the end of the Old Kingdom and the mediatization , the building lost its function. It was converted into the city's district court . The Echterhof retained this function until 1918. After the end of the First World War , the building came into private hands and has been used as a hotel ever since . The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation runs the prince-bishop's office under monument number D-6-75-174-56. It is part of the Volkach Old Town ensemble. The underground remains of the previous buildings are classified as a ground monument .

description

The office building presents itself as a typical representative of the real Gothic . It is two-story and has nine by three window axes. The building is crowned by a gable roof. The volute gables end in shell discs and are decorated with balls. An attached round stair tower protrudes from the rear . The windows have double frames.

The portal with its bosses has rustic walls and three-dimensional diamond blocks and thus resembles the office building in Oberschwarzach . The year "1605" is written above the portal. The office room on the first floor has a wooden coffered ceiling with elongated diamonds and octagon shapes. In other rooms there is an ornamental framework.
