The Principality of Kobrin (Russian Ко́бринское кня́жество ) was a principality in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania around Kobryn from 1387 to 1519 in what is now Belarus .

The principality was in the area around Kobryn , important places were Dobuchin , until 1435 also Ratne , Ljuboml , Koschersk . In 1404 the villages Khruchchev , Prochnow , Nezuchojschi and Milanowitschi were mentioned.

history

Kobryn was first mentioned in 1287 when Prince of Halich-Volhynia Vladimir Vasilkovich transferred the castle to his wife.

Since 1366 the area belonged to Lithuania. Grand Duke Algirdas gave it to his son Fiodoras .

1377 had Fiodoras not his brother after the death of his father Jogaila of Lithuania, but probably the Polish-Hungarian king Louis I assumed. During this time he led a rule of Ratne independent of Halitsch-Volhynien . In 1386 he submitted to Jogailo .

His son Roman von Kobrin was first mentioned in 1387 . In 1404, Grand Duke Vytautas confirmed his rights as ruler in Kobrin. He was mentioned for the last time in 1416.

His son Simon was first mentioned in 1431 when he took the side of Švitrigaila against Sigismund in the battle for the Grand Duchy of Lithuania . As a result, he was captured and lost Ratne . Under his son Ivan and his wife Fedora that emerged Spassky Monastery in Kobrin and the church in Dobutschin ( pruzhany ). The marriage remained without a male successor. In 1492, after the death of her husband, Grand Duke Alexander confirmed Fedora the rights to a third of the territory. She married Juri Pocowicz in 1492 and in 1508 the Chancellor of the Grand Duchy Mikołaj Radziwiłł .

The last princess of Kobrin was Anna , Simon's daughter . When she died in 1518, the principality was converted into a Starostei and given to her husband Wacław Stanisławowicz Kostewicz .

In 1532 Queen Bona Sforza was transferred to the Starostei, in 1566 she went into the Powiat Pińsk of the newly created Brześć Litewski Voivodeship .
