The F. J. Seeger tea shop , known as Tee-Seeger , is considered the oldest specialty tea shop in Germany. It was 1743 in Hannover founded and is named after its founder F riedrich J acob Seeger named.

history

In 1743 Friedrich Jacob Seeger founded a tea shop at Marktstrasse 27 in Hanover. His father was the businessman Friedrich Christoph Seeger. Since September 29, 1848, the shop has been at Markt 14 and later at Köbelingerstraße 54. At that time, the company was "Königlich Hannoverscher Hof-Thee-Supplier" .

In 1875, Friedrich Volger, the Seegers' son-in-law, joined the company as managing director with general power of attorney. His successor was his son Paul Volger. In 1900 the business moved into a new building on what was then Theaterplatz (today's Rathenaustraße 15). The tea shop FJ Seeger was also a royal schaumburg-Lippe and a princely Schwarzburg-rudolstadt purveyor to the court.

The successor was Paul Volgers nephew Robert Wilms (born July 2, 1883). He joined the company as an authorized signatory in 1930 and took over in 1937. The outbreak of the Second World War brought the company into difficult economic times. In 1943 the business celebrated its 200th anniversary. In October 1943 it was almost completely destroyed in a heavy air raid on Hanover , only the entrance was partially preserved. After the war, the company resumed operations in a barrack in front of the opera house . On April 1, 1951, the merchant and honorary consul of Mexico Walter Koch (1911–1998) integrated FJ Seeger into his Machwitz Kaffee company . Shortly afterwards, we moved into the rebuilt building on Rathenaustraße. In 2010 the business was moved to Karmarschstraße 37/39.

To this day, the company is owned by the Koch family, who are now the third generation to run FJ Seeger KG.
