history

Industrial development began in Magdeburg in the 1830s. In 1838 the Magdeburger Dampfschiffahrts-Compagnie founded the machine factory Buckau and initially built steam engines for their own ships in Magdeburg on the Elbe . A large wooden building, the Alte Bude , housed the first workshop. As a subsidiary of engineer founded Rudolf Wolf in 1862 in Magdeburg-Buckau the Lokomobilfabrik R.Wolf , later known as Buckau Wolf AG , which in 1906 the first Doppeltorbagger for coal built.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the industrial areas of the city of Magdeburg continued to grow. The machine factory Georg Becker & Co. settled in Magdeburg- Sudenburg , the current headquarters of the FAM Group. After the Second World War , the Buckau R. Wolf and Georg Becker & Co. machine works were nationalized and continued as GDW-Buckau und Förderanlagen Magdeburg , or FAM for short. In 1959, VEB Schwermaschinenbau, existing in Magdeburg's industrial port , was merged on October 7th, and the former AW Mackensen machine factory was merged with the Sudenburg locations to form FAM Förderanlagen 7th October Magdeburg.

With German reunification , mechanical engineering in Magdeburg experienced a structural change. FAM Förderanlagen Magdeburg was privatized in 1993 and is now an independent group of companies. The company GDW-Buckau was privatized in 1994 and merged with FAM in 1996. In 1997, FAM as another daughter, the FAM Köthen GmbH and took over from the former company Förderanlagen- and Kranbau Köthen expertise for open pit spreaders and band wagon . With this, FAM completed its product range for bulk material handling and processing with the field of open pit conveyor technology.

The FAM Group is active in over 80 countries and employs more than 1500 people worldwide (as of 2020).
