The 1. FC Herzogenaurach is a football club from the Middle-Franconian town of Herzogenaurach .

history

The association was founded in 1916. Supported by the local sporting goods manufacturer Puma and its owner Rudolf Dassler , the club played in the Bavarian League for seven years between 1970 and 1981 . In 1975 he qualified for the first main round in the DFB Cup , where they lost 1: 5 to the Bremen association league club SGO Bremen . After a slow sporting decline, the club played in the district league (Erlangen / Pegnitzgrund 1) until 2016, before being promoted to the district league and in 2018 to the state league.

The best-known player from the ranks of the club is the German national record player Lothar Matthäus , whose father worked for Puma.
