The SK Dolní Kounice is a Czech football club from the south Moravian town of Dolní Kounice . The previous club played in the 2002/03 season as FC Group Dolní Kounice in the 2nd Czech league .

His fate is closely linked to the patronage of Czech football that emerged after the collapse of communism in the 1990s, when individual entrepreneurs brought a previously insignificant club into professional football, but ran into financial difficulties and dropped the club.

Club history

Founded in 1921 as SK Dolní Kounice , the club played in the lower leagues until the mid-1990s. His rise was made possible by the two entrepreneurs František Klimeš and Miroslav Verba through their company WELT , who joined the club in 1993.

The team won the Jihomoravský přebor in the 1995/96 season and rose to Divize D , the fourth-highest division. It was renamed FC Roubina Dolní Kounice , Roubina was another company owned by Klimeš and Verba. Two years later the team won the Divize D and rose to the MSFL , the 3rd division. After a seventh, eleventh and tenth place Dolní Kounice, now playing as FC Group , was runner- up in the 2001/02 season of the MSFL and was promoted to the professional 2nd league. There the team was not competitive and finished last. In the second half of the season, the club ran into major financial difficulties, but was ultimately able to play the championship to the end.

The two patrons Klimeš and Verba had to file for bankruptcy with their company WELT and could no longer support the association financially. After the 2003/04 season, which Dolní Kounice had finished tenth in the MSFL , the club merged with FC Tatran Brno-Kohoutovice, on whose facility the team had already contested the second half of the season. Before the 2007/08 season there was a re-establishment in Dolní Kounice under the original name of SK Dolní Kounice , which began in the lowest division.
