The FC Zurich Women since 2008, the Women's Football Department of FC Zurich . The department, founded in 1970, had previously belonged to SV Seebach for decades until 2005 and then only became independent for a short time. The first team has played in the top league without interruption since the Swiss women's football championship was founded and has won the championship 22 times and the Swiss Cup fourteen times.

history

On April 24, 1970, a women's football team was formed in the Zurich district club SV Seebach, which was founded in 1916. The men's team of SV Seebach played in the second highest Swiss league in the early 1930s. With Fredy Bickel, one of the greatest Swiss football idols of all time emerged from their ranks . The women won their first championship title in 1980 and celebrated their first double just a year later. By 2005 they won a total of 12 championship titles and 7 cup victories.

In 1978 and 1981 SV Seebach took part in the “Women's World Invitation Tournament” in the Republic of China (Taiwan) . Some games in the 1981 tournament are counted by FIFA as international matches for the Swiss women's national football team .

In 2005 the women's department of SV Seebach founded its own club under the name FFC Zurich Seebach. Between 2005 and 2008 they won the 13th championship title and the 8th cup title.

In summer 2008 the period of independence came to an end. The women's teams have now joined FC Zurich . The name FFC Zurich Seebach was changed to FC Zurich Women . The E and D juniors were integrated into FC Zurich to form the FCZ LetziKids. After 40 years, a circle came full circle: the best Zurich women's team returned to the club to which the first women's football club in Switzerland, founded on February 21, 1968, the later dissolved DFC Zurich, was affiliated.

FC Zurich Women are the record champions in Swiss women's football and the second most successful club in the all-time rankings behind FFC Bern . After exactly ten years without a championship title, FC Zurich Women brought the title back to Zurich in 2008 and successfully defended it in 2009 and 2010. From 2012 to 2016, the FC Zurich women won 5 championship titles in a row under coach Dorjee Tsawa . In the 2016/17 season they lost both titles to FC Neunkirch , but they got back the double in the following season after the defending champion withdrew for financial reasons. This season's coach was Luca Fiorina . They also won the double in the 2018/19 season under the new coach Andy Ladner.
