The FHS St. Gallen University of Applied Sciences is a regionally anchored university with a national and international reputation. More than 1,600 students study in one of the four departments of health, social work, construction and technology, and economics. The further education center registers over 1800 participants in its courses, courses and seminars every year. It is part of the Fachhochschule Ostschweiz (FHO) and is supported by the cantons of St. Gallen , Thurgau and the two Appenzell . On September 1, 2020, the FHS St. Gallen will be transferred to the newly founded OST University of Applied Sciences and will be part of the merger of the three Eastern Swiss universities of applied sciences NTB Buchs , HSR Rapperswil and FHS St. Gallen.

history

The university was created in 2001 from a merger of various universities, the founding of which dates back to 1955. Today the university is divided into the departments of economics, social work, health and construction and technology. The departments train Bachelor and consecutive Master’s students. The university also has a training center. This offers seminars, certificate courses and recognized master’s further education. Eight institutes with numerous competence centers and two knowledge transfer points support companies and organizations with applied research and development as well as services. 346 employees work in administration and mid-level staff. The university center is centrally located in Eastern Switzerland , directly at the St. Gallen train station . As of September 1, 2020, the FHS St.Gallen University of Applied Sciences will be replaced as one of the three locations by the OST - Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences. Three departments will be located at the St. Gallen location: Economy, Social Work and Health.
