Fabian Kessl
Fabian Kessl (* in Rottweil ) is a German educational and political scientist.
Life
After studying with Micha Brumlik , Volker Lenhart , Klaus von Beyme and Manfred G. Schmidt at the University of Heidelberg , Kessl received his doctorate in 2004 at the Faculty of Education at the University of Bielefeld as a member of the DFG graduate program “Youth Welfare in Transition”. The subject of his dissertation, for which he received the prize from the Westphalian-Lippian University Society, was "The use of one's own strengths: for the government of the social" (first reviewer: Hans-Uwe Otto ). From 2008 to 2018 Kessl worked as a university professor at the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Duisburg-Essen . Since then he has held the same position at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences at the University of Wuppertal .
Kessl is a member of the editorial team of the magazine “contradictions”, managing director of the international online journal “ Social Work & Society ” and co-editor of the social passages.
From 2007 to 2013 Kessl was a member of the board of the Social Pedagogy Commission in the German Society for Educational Science (DGfE). From 2014 to 2018 he was an elected member of the full board. In March 2018, Kessl was responsible for the 26th DGfE congress in Essen as the spokesman for the local organizing committee.
Since 2011 he has been part of the board of trustees of the Solidarity Modern Institute (ISM) and one of the five board spokesmen since 2012.
Kessl works as a liaison professor at the Hans Böckler Foundation (HBS).
From 2016 to 2018 he was appointed expert of the study commission “Child protection and children's rights further strengthening” of the Hamburg citizenship.
In June 2011 the NRW Minister of Science Svenja Schulze opened the doctoral program “Contradictions in Societal Integration. On the Transformation of Social Work ”of the Hans Böckler Foundation , Kessl was its spokesman until 2015. From the cross-university cooperation there between the University of Duisburg-Essen and several North Rhine-Westphalian universities of applied sciences, the PhD program "Living in the transformed welfare state" (TransSoz) emerged in 2013, in which Kessl was active as a university lecturer until 2016.
