Hans-Uwe Otto

Hans-Uwe Otto (born January 6, 1940 in Husum ) is a German educational scientist .

After teaching and working as a skilled worker in industry , Otto studied at the Higher Technical School for Social Work in Dortmund and then studied sociology , psychology and educational science at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . At the same time he was working in the “Sociology of Developing Countries” department of the Social Research Center at the University of Münster in Dortmund.

He then worked as a research assistant at Bielefeld University at the sociological faculty of which he received his doctorate in 1974 . In the same year Otto became a professor for educational science with special emphasis on social education at the Pedagogical University of Westphalia-Lippe in Bielefeld . From 1979 until his retirement he was a professor for educational science with a focus on social education at Bielefeld University.

In 1993/94 he was chairman of the steering committee for the development of the educational science department and commissioner for the center for school research and questions of teacher training at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , where he was awarded the title of doctor honoris causa in 1994 .
