Fabian Klose

Fabian Klose (* 1976 ) is a German historian . He is Professor of International History and Historical Peace and Conflict Research at the University of Cologne .

Life

From 2008 to 2009 he was a DAAD postdoctoral fellow at the University of Minnesota and Princeton University . From 2008 to 2009 he was a lecturer in the Department of History at Princeton University. From 2009 to 2012, he was a research associate of Martin Geyer at the History Department of the University of Munich as part of the DFG -Forschungsprojekts "In the Cause of Humanity". In 2012 he was a research assistant at the chair for the history of science of Kärin Nickelsen at the historical seminar in Munich . From 2012 to 2018 he was a research associate in the Universal History Department at the Leibniz Institute for European History . Since 2014 he has been the Academy Leader (together with Johannes Paulmann and Andrew Thompson ) of the Global Humanitarianism Research Academy (GHRA) in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross. After completing his habilitation in 2017 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, he taught as a visiting professor at the Center d'Histoire at Sciences Po Paris in March 2018 . In 2018 he received the Carl Erdmann Prize of the VHD for the habilitation thesis "In the Cause of Humanity". In the 2018/2019 winter semester, he represented the Chair of Modern History and Contemporary History at the History Department of the LMU Munich . In 2018 he turned down the professorship (W3) for transnational history of the 19th and 20th centuries at the Europa-Universität Flensburg . Since 2019 he has held the chair for international history and historical conflict and peace research (19th / 20th centuries) at the University of Cologne .

His research interests are the history of France and Great Britain in the 19th and 20th centuries, the history of human rights and humanitarianism, the history of humanitarian law, the history of international organizations (United Nations, International Committee of the Red Cross) and transnational movements, the history of decolonization and the wars of decolonization , History of Humanitarian Intervention, Transnational History, and Global History.

Fabian Klose's habilitation thesis “In the Cause of Humanity”. A history of humanitarian intervention in the long 19th century was awarded the Carl Erdmann Prize of the Association of Historians of Germany (VHD for short) in 2018 .
