Fabian Raymond Picardo (born February 18, 1972 in Gibraltar ) is a politician from Gibraltar who has been the Chief Minister of Gibraltar since 2011 .

Life

Picardo began studying after school 1990 Law on Oriel College of the University of Oxford , which he finished 1,993th During his studies he co-founded the Gibraltar National Party (GNP) in 1991 , from which the Gibraltar Liberal Party (GLP) emerged in 1999 . In 1994 he was admitted as a lawyer at the Bar Association ( Inns of Court ) from Middle Temple . Upon his return, he took up a legal practice in September 1994 in the Hassans law firm founded in 1939 by former long-time Chief Minister Joshua Abraham Hassan , the largest law firm in Gibraltar, and became a partner in this law firm in 2000.

In 2003 Picardo joined the Gibraltar Socialist Labor Party (GSLP) as a member. It was the first time for the GSLP in the elections on 27 November 2003 a member of the meeting house of Gibraltar (Gibraltar House of Assembly) elected and re-elected in subsequent elections on October 11 of 2007.

After the former Chief Minister Joe Bossano resigned as chairman of the Gibraltar Socialist Labor Party and opposition leader in April 2011 , Picardo succeeded him in both functions. Under his chairmanship, the GSLP won ten of the 17 seats in the Parliament of Gibraltar in the elections on December 8, 2011, whereupon Picardo succeeded Peter Caruana as the new Chief Minister of Gibraltar . On December 9, 2011, Picardo presented his first cabinet. In the elections on November 26, 2015, the GSLP was able to maintain its majority of ten of the 17 seats in the Parliament of Gibraltar , whereupon Picardo presented his second cabinet on December 9, 2015.

Picardo is married to Justine Olivero, who also works for the Hassans law firm, and has two sons and a daughter.
