Fabricius is an impact crater to the south of the moon's front . It lies north of the large Janssen crater , the wall of which it partially covers, and south-west of Metius . The large lunar valley Vallis Rheita runs in the northeast . The crater is only slightly eroded, has pronounced terracing of the inner wall and a central massif .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the East Frisian astronomer David Fabricius .
