Metius is an impact crater in the south of the front of the moon , northeast of the crater Fabricius and southwest of Rheita and the lunar valley Vallis Rheita, which extends in a southeast direction . The rim of the crater is moderately eroded, the interior largely flat.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Dutch mathematician and astronomer Adriaan Metius .
