The Academy for Social Education at the Evangelical Diakonissenanstalt Augsburg is one of the oldest denominational school for nationally recognized educators and teachers in Bavaria . It can look back on more than 120 years of tradition. The institution is run by the Evangelical Diakonissenanstalt Augsburg . The training center is affiliated with the Professional Association of Protestant Training Centers for Social Pedagogy (BeA) .

past and present

As early as 1889, the deaconess Margarethe Gerhard was setting up kindergarten courses in the summer months for her fellow sisters who worked untrained in infant care institutions . The demand from the entire Bavarian area was enormous, so that in the same year the Diakonissenanstalt sent a petition to the Königl. Government of Swabia and Neuburg the authorization to construct a toddler Heritage true institution on the grounds of Diaconissenhauses asked to the sisters ... to provide training for their future profession from now on in the mother's house itself . Finally, on December 3, 1899, the infant care facility was inaugurated with the participation of numerous notables from the city and the Diakonie. In addition to the practical work with the children, the students received a few hours of theoretical lessons to deepen their practical experience, based on Friedrich Froebel's pedagogy : Froebel's educational theory (with special consideration of mother and Koselieder ), theory of Froebel's means of employment and education, etc. Right from the start, access to training was also open to secular young girls and women. The seminar for kindergarten teachers was very popular, far beyond the city of Augsburg . In 1910 the state approval and a restructuring of the training took place, in accordance with the state regulations issued that year. The preparation for the profession of kindergarten teacher now covered a period of 1 to 1 ½ years.

In 1928, by decree of the government of Swabia and Neuburg, the training of kindergarten teachers and after-school care workers was merged. The training period was two years. From then on, the training facility was called "Kindergarten Teachers' Seminar".

During the time of National Socialism, the training center was subject to state harassment, especially since its Christian orientation was a thorn in the side of those in power from the start. Racial studies had to be introduced as early as the 1933/34 school year , and from the beginning of 1938 religious services were no longer allowed. Furthermore, for the school year 1933/1934, the ministerial decree was issued to the seminar to take due account of the National Socialist holidays. At the end of the school year 1941/42, a tradition that had lasted more than 50 years suddenly broke off, the "grace period" for the school came to an end and was banned. In addition to the Christian orientation of the seminar, another reason for its closure was that in the newly established NSV.-Kindergarten teacher seminar in Friedberg near Augsburg , enough faithful kindergarten teachers could be trained, as required in National Socialist institutions.

Soon after the collapse of the Nazi tyranny, the training facility received the required apporoval for the reopening of the seminary for kindergarden teachers after the school and the registered teachers had been checked . The Office of Military Governement for the administrative region of Swabia wrote briefly and succinctly to those responsible for the deaconess institution:

Your application for the Reopening of the above named school is herewith approved

In 1967 the school was able to move into a new building on the premises of the Diakonissenanstalt. In the course of the school changes in Bavaria in 1968, the kindergarten teachers' seminar was converted into a technical school for social education and as such received state recognition in 1972. Five years later it was converted again to a specialist academy for social education . In 2001 the social pedagogical seminar was introduced with the option of acquiring the state-certified nanny qualification after two years .

In 2005 the specialist academy for social education left its ancestral home, in the middle of Augsburg, and moved to the Evangelical Mile , Hooverstrasse 5, in the building of the Evangelical Lutheran General Church Community .
