Facheiroa ulei is a species of plant in the genus Facheiroa from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the German botanist and explorer Ernst Heinrich Georg Ule, who traveled to Brazil at the end of the 19th century.
description
Facheiroa ulei grows shrubby with up to 40 branches and reaches heights of up to 5 meters. The dark to gray-green shoots have a diameter of 5 to 7 centimeters. There are ribs 15 to 20, 6 to 8 millimeters high . The reddish brown spines differ in 2 to 4 central spines 1 to 3 centimeters long and 10 to 15 radial spines that are 1 to 1.5 centimeters long. The 20 centimeters long (or longer) and 2 to 4 centimeters wide cephalium consists of reddish brown hairs that are up to 5 millimeters long.
The white flowers are 3 to 4.5 inches long and 1.7 to 2.8 inches in diameter. The greenish fruits are up to 6 centimeters long and 3 to 4 centimeters in diameter.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Facheiroa ulei is common in the Brazilian state of Bahia at altitudes of 400 to 950 meters. The first description as Cephalocereus ulei was published in 1908 by Robert Louis August Maximilian Gürke . Erich Werdermann placed them in the genus Facheiroa in 1933 . A synonym is Facheiroa publiflora Britton & Rose (1920).
About the threat of facheiroa ulei in were endangered Red List species of IUCN before 2002 are insufficient data. After the list was revised in 2013, the species will be classified as " Least Concern (LC) ", i. H. listed as not endangered.
