The trade association for the lock and fittings industry(FVSB) is an association of lock and fitting manufacturers in Germany and represents the interests of companies in the industry. The association currently looks after around 70 member companies with 25,000 employees and a turnover of 4 billion euros. Among other things, the FVSB has set itself the task of preparing drafts for the locks and fittings area on the current industry situation and forecasts, as well as developing guidelines and decision-making aids for operational practice for the member companies. Furthermore, the trade association informs its members in circulars and through reports on the lock and fittings industry. In addition, the association enables discussion in the respective specialist departments in order to solve product-specific questions. On the homepage, the FVSB informs its members about market events, technical developments and interesting facts about products and the industry. The office in Velbert supports and looks after the member companies of the Association of the Lock and Fittings Industry.

history

It was founded by order of the military government as a subdivision of the Iron, Sheet Metal and Metal Processing Industry (EBM) trade association, which was also founded in 1946. On February 4, 1946, 132 manufacturers and company representatives from Germany gathered in Velbert in the Rheinischer Hof to found the trade association. In February 1947, the founding companies decided to have the association entered in the register of associations. The entry took place in November 1948 and by 1952 the activity was gradually expanded from the British via the American and French occupation zones to West Berlin.

Technology and standardization

The involvement of representatives of the member companies and the management of the professional association in the national and international standardization work should enable manufacturers' interests to be taken into account at an early stage. The membership of the professional association in DIN as well as the contacts to the respective state building authorities, the German Institute for Construction Technology (DIBt) and the European standards organization CEN ensure that the FVSB can inform its members about updates on building regulations lists, introductory decrees, ordinances and standardization changes.

measure up

The FVSB provides information on trade fair events in the lock and fittings industry and helps shape it through membership in the technical advisory boards of Security (Messe Essen), Fensterbau Frontale (Messe Nürnberg) and Bau (Messe München). The trade association has been a long-standing member of the AUMA exhibition and trade fair committee . The FVSB is also active internationally for its members, so the association coordinates and applies for the participation and funding of foreign trade fairs.

Umbrella associations, national and international organizations

The FVSB maintains contacts with professional associations with companies from the steel and metal processing, wood and plastics processing, building material production, housing industry and hardware trade. Contact persons in federal and state ministries as well as authorities complete this network. The association helps shape international interests through its membership in ARGE, the European association of lock and hardware manufacturers, on a European level.

Press work

The FVSB uses press releases, editorial articles and brochures to provide information on products and news from the lock and fittings industry. Among other things, reports on trade fair events, statements on developments in standards, company news and product information are published on a regular basis. In addition, the trade association is available as a contact for questions about the industry.

Quality protection and testing institute

The quality association locks and fittings is an association of manufacturers and service providers in the field of locks and fittings. It creates guidelines and publishes technical notes. The Gütegemeinschaft is an organization for the implementation and monitoring of quality assurance. The test institute for locks and fittings Velbert (PIV), which is part of the quality association, is available for practical tests. In addition to mechanical product tests on locks and fittings as well as on windows and doors, the testing institute also tests the mechatronics. These tests serve to ensure quality standards. Membership in the RAL and contacts to other quality associations as well as national and European committees ensure an exchange of experience in testing. The testing institute is recognized as a notified body NB for product tests according to European standards and as a testing, monitoring and certification body according to state building regulations.
